Role on the Team
Position Summary: As a technical leader in clinical applications, applies advanced professional concepts and extensive industry knowledge to lead and / or work on medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity. The incumbent provides support for all computer and information systems activities of the Pathology Department. Monitors activity and maintains LIS performance and integrity to ensure highest standards of patient care and compliance with all applicable regulations. Incumbent may be required to chair user group and validation committees with technical specialists and physicians across the Health System.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or contribute to medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity in clinical applications, Beaker, EPIC, and LIS environments.
  • Provide support for all computer and information systems activities of the Pathology Department.
  • Monitor LIS activity and maintain performance and data integrity to ensure patient care quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Chair user groups and validation committees with technical specialists and physicians across the Health System as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Recent and in-depth knowledge of LIS function and usage
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and lead meetings involving groups comprised of technical specialists and providers from many medical specialties and support departments
  • Customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • On-call availability (24-hour rotations) as a system duty officer
  • In-depth knowledge of operations, systems and functions, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation
  • General knowledge of laboratory medicine theory and practice
  • Beaker AP/CP Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, or equivalent combination of experience/training
  • Ability to coordinate multiple complex tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to function as a project leader and project team member
  • Strong relationship-building skills across the Health System
  • Advanced problem-resolution skills for highly complex issues with timely solutions
  • 5+ years of Beaker experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of University and Medical Center policies and forms
  • Experience with LIS maintenance, including new test builds
  • Experience with EMR/LIS HL7, instruments, middleware, and point-of-care interfaces
  • Experience in digital pathology implementation
  • Current California Clinical Lab Scientist or Cytotech License
